Identity of “the Jewess” in Delacroix’s Orientalist Painting: Women of Algiers in their Apartment

The subject of my research is Jewish feminine identity portrayed in Delacroix’s painting, Women of Algiers in their Apartment. The mission of this research is to decipher the Jewish content in this specific work, in a cultural context of nineteenth century Orientalist art Primary sources, including artist’s works, sketches, journal notes, exhibitions and Salon reviews will aid in the analysis of this work by using Stylistic and Feminist methodologies.
